Project:

RCDC with operations and programme development Jeremy Jones initiated a concept of urban farming on unused school land by designing, planning, and implementing a permaculture, hydroponic and aquaponic off-grid farming system.

The site is a centre for urban agriculture education and skills training. A dynamic group was established working as the Lukhanyo Urban Farming Network (LUFN) to drive urban farming initiatives in the area.

Skills development training programmes have been run at the site for several years. The Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and the Community Workers Programme (CWP) have been involved.

Currently staff are funded by the skills development NGO, UnlockedD. An NGO will be formed in 2019 to deliver urban agriculture projects. A connected sister urban farm will be developed at the nearby Zola High School (business focus).
